US Raises Tariffs to 15% Under New Order by Donald Trump

23 February 2026

Following a Supreme Court ruling blocking broad tariffs under emergency powers, President Trump signed an executive order on February 21 to impose temporary global import duties.

The originally proposed 10% tariff was increased to 15% after review of the court’s decision.

The new measure allows tariffs of up to 15% for a period of 150 days, unless Congress approves an extension.

The Supreme Court ruled that the administration exceeded its authority under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA).

Trump criticized the ruling as anti-American and signaled that further country-specific tariff measures may follow.
