UK Trade Hit by New 15% US Tariffs

24 February 2026

Donald Trump has proposed increasing global tariffs to 15%, up from the earlier 10%, impacting a wide range of UK exports except those under the Economic Prosperity Deal.

The British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) warned that the UK’s 40,000 goods-exporting companies to the US could face an additional 5% duty burden.

The tariff hike is estimated to raise total UK export costs to the US by £2–3 billion (approximately $2.36–3.54 billion).

Industry leaders cautioned that higher trade costs may disrupt transatlantic commerce, increase expenses for US consumers and businesses, and slow global economic growth.

The measure is temporary and will require Congressional approval within 150 days, leaving room for further negotiations.
